DIY stroller cell phone carrier (a pouch for your mobile phone)

Here’s how to make a pouch or a storage space for just your mobile phone. While some strollers do provide placeholders to keep thinks like mobile phones and keys, not all strollers have such storage spaces.

Storage trays on some strollers are not really suited to keep your mobile phone. It’s very easy for it to fall down when the stroller hits a curb or you need to maneuver quickly around people.

So it’s definitely not worth the risk.

The best thing to do is to buy a phone mount for strollers or make your own pouch to keep your smartphone.

In preparation of the summer season coming and anticipation of walks in the park, I decided to make a fun stroller cell phone carrier.

I have a bigger stroller that has the basket at the bottom and drink and key compartment at the top but let’s face it…sometimes we would rather grab a small umbrella stroller instead of the big stroller.

I made this carrier to hold my mobile phone and a few cards/cash if needed.

Materials: Fabric, Curtain Grommets.

Here are the steps:

  • Cut out 2 rectangular pieces that measure 5 1/2 in. x 13 1/2 in out of fabric and one out of batting. ( One piece of fabric will be for the front and the other piece will be the back piece)
  • Cut another piece “on the fold” of the fabric that measures 5 1/2 in. x 5 1/2 in. Top stitch the folded end and lay on top of your top piece
  • Lay your back piece on top of your front piece right sides ( pretty sides) together. Lay your batting on top. Sew around all 4 edges making sure to leave a 3 inch hole for turning.
  • Turn right side out, press with a hot iron and top stitch all four sides. Follow the instructions on the box of your grommets for steps to finish the project. Some grommets come with different instructions. I bought ones that clicked in to each other. My grommet box came with a small circle template that I used to trace a circle. I then cut out the circle and placed the grommets in the hole and clicked together.

Mum’s Smartphone Flexi Tripod hack draws criticism

A mum, whose child is suffering from autism, found a way to keep her little boy “calm and happy” when outdoors. Tayla Hutchinson from Australia used a Smartphone Flexi Tripod to attach a smartphone to the pram. It allowed her son Western to watch his favorite YouTube channel, Super Simple Songs, keeping him entertained, while she completed her shopping.

Western is afraid of noises and large crowds, which often leads to outbursts in public places. So shopping expeditions are often a volatile experience. After this hack, Western keeps himself busy while mum finishes of other important work.

The legs on the tripod are completely flexible, so you can adjust it to your pram or trolley; it also stays well in place She attached the tripod upside-down, off the top of the pram cover.

“The hack doesn’t hurt his neck, he can’t throw my phone, and it’s not sitting so close to his face,” Tayla said. The hack also works well on trolleys, while she does her grocery shopping.

Tayla posted this hack on social Media and received several positive comments for her hack. Mums who could relate to her struggles thanked Tayla for providing them with an easy way to de-escalate a situation. “We need more love and less judgment. Anything to help another parent out.”

However, she also received criticism for exposing the child to smartphone at such a young age.

The comments were mainly about how technology has so much radiation, and how we’re growing a generation that’s always on their phones.

“I get judged a lot for the way he behaves in public, and now I’m getting judged for trying to prevent it. When you don’t know what other mums go through, it’s easy to judge,” she said.

“I’m not worried about people calling my hack ‘bad parenting’, all I care about is keeping my child calm and happy.”
