Freerider Stroller Board: Innovative child scooter as a buggy board

Mountain Buggy Freerider stroller board is a uniquely designed child scooter that also attaches as a buggy board to most strollers (compatible with Phil & Teds, baby jogger, bugaboo, britax, quinny using connectors). It easily attaches (via a connector) to the rear axle of your stroller for buggy board mode. When not attached to the stroller board, it easily detaches to let your little one have some scooter fun. Freerider Review

The Mountain Buggy freeride is a stroller board with a simple (yet ingenious) concept that easily converts a buggy board into a scooter in seconds, and you require no special tools to do that. This board fastens to the rear axle of the buggy (via a connector) so your child can stand and ride along, and it works with most brands of strollers.

The freerider offers dual functionality – one as a stroller board and another as a kids scooter. No wonder its such a popular product!

The freerider can be folded upright when not in use (it doesn’t seem to fold up well on models such as the navigator).

The scooter requires some assembly, but the process is very simple. Check the wheels before use. If you feel they aren’t tightened properly (using an Alan wrench).

Independent Scooter
When you don’t need the stroller, the board can be completely detached and used as an independent scooter, which your child can use to play — isn’t that a great design? Its definitely fun for the kids, and even adults can give it a try once in a while, and relive your childhood days (although its definitely meant for kids).

Please note that the front wheel doesn’t swivel, with the front wheel fixed it may not turn well (older kids cannot take sharp turns).

But the great ting is that the wheels lit up when in motion, which the kids find exciting and is a nice feature. Light up wheels is lots of fun for kids.

Maneuvering
With the free-rider attached, maneuvering of the stroller does get a bit restricted. And because the scooter is a bit long, you have to alter your walking a bit, when the scooter is on the stroller.

Depending on how tall you are, you may have to walk to the side or take shorter strides.

Difficult to reattach
The scooter is a bit difficult to reattach. You have to take the handlebars off each time, so it’s not quick to attach/reattach when the kids want to jump on and off. Maybe in the future, the model will have a handle that you don’t have to detach.

Seat won’t recline fully
With the freerider attached, you cannot recline the seat flat. The freerider also won’t attach with the bassinet in its original position (you need to adjust it further).

Compatibility

The Freerider scooter is compatible with a wide range of strollers (using the connectors). It works with major stroller brands like Mountain Buggy, Phil & Teds, Baby jogger, Bugaboo, Bob, Britax, Quinny, using a universal connector (which is sold separately).

The freerider connector allows you to turn your freerider child scooter into a buggy board. With one universal connector, freerider can be attached on:

  • Mountain Buggy – nano, MB mini travel system, swift, urban jungle, +one, terrain, cosmopolitan, duet
  • phil&teds – vibe, verve, navigator (2014+), sport (2015+), dash (2015+), voyager, smart lux, smart(2016+)
  • Britax – B-Ready, Steelcraft StriderPLUS
  • Baby Jogger – City mini, City mini GT, City select, City versa, City elite
  • Bugaboo – Buffalo Quinny – Buzz, Moodd

Mountain Buggy Freerider vs Phil & Teds Freerider

If you do a google search you will find Mountain Buggy Freerider as well as Phil & Teds Freerider. However, the two are basically the same product.

The Freerider product is made by Mountain Buggy but is also commonly referred to as the Phil & Teds Freerider (but they only make the connectors which makes the Freerider compatible with Phil & Teds strollers).

Mountain Buggy Freerider Kiddie Board: Buying Links & Pricing

Overall, a good product (although not perfect) with a great design that has multiple uses. You can buy this as a standard scooter, which will double up as a stroller board as well. Kids have the independence of using the freerider as a scooter, and when they are tired they can enjoy the ‘free ride’.
