Stroller wheels stuck, not turning: Here’s how to fix rotation / swivel problems with most stroller Wheels.

Stroller wheels getting stuck, or not swiveling as desired is a common problem faced by stroller owners. In most cases, it is a case of cleaning the wheel, which takes care of the problem.

As part of regular maintenance of the stroller, you should remove the wheels and cleaning away the dirt, sand and grit from time to time.

You can even checkout the suggestions mentioned for stopping stroller wheels from squeaking. It suggests ways to oiling the wheels and use of lubricants.

In certain cases, if something has broken or if the wheel is really faulty, you may have to replace it. Its easy to find spare wheels and replace worn-out stroller wheels; these can be purchased online or at a home-improvement store.

Here’s a video that shows how to fix sticky swivel wheels on a Britax B-Agile. The woman removes the wheels and then lubricates it with WD 40 spray (you may use any other lubricant) and then reattaches the wheel to the stroller, and the wheels no longer stick (everything fixed and works smoothly).

How to keep the stroller wheels moving smoothly?

Strollers are heavily dependent on the wheels for smooth operation. That is why you should periodically take care of your tiles.

Over a period of time, some wheel may turn squeaky. While, it may not really hamper the movement (although it makes them a bit difficult to move), what is really irritating is the squeaky sound that the wheels make.

Stroller wheels need maintenance every now and then to keep them quiet. In most cases, the wheels and wheel mechanisms just need a little lubrication to stop the wheels from squeaking.

Stroller Maintenance: Oiling the wheels on a Maclaren

Here are some options that you may incorporate to keep the wheels moving smooth.

  • You should also avoid using Vaseline, grease or silicon lubricants as these substances tend to attract dirt and grime which affects the performance of your stroller wheels.
  • There are many who recommend not to use WD40 lubricant. One owner called Maclaren when their stroller was squeaking and the support guys suggested a silicon spray (not the same as WD40). Its easily available at most hardware stores. Many parents have used silicon spray on squeaky doors as well (instead of WD40) and it worked fine. WD-40 can be used for removing surface rust but not as a lubricant for stroller wheels.
  • It is recommended that you periodically remove the stroller wheels to clean the axle and treat wheel attachments with dry Teflon spray.
  • Some local pram shops suggest use of furniture polish, which has silicone in it. It works well to stop the squeak without making the wheels overly greasy. Furniture polish smells nice too.

If the stroller wheels have undergone lot of wear and tear, they will eventually need to be replaced.

Its easy nowadays to replace worn-out stroller wheels; these can be purchased online or at a home-improvement store. To replace the stroller wheel, just loosen the nuts and bolts and remove the damaged wheel, and install the replacement wheel.
