You can now rent all kinds of baby items, including strollers and carriers to toys; in fact, you’ll be amazed by the types of items that are available for rental nowadays.

When it comes to buying things for their children, parents often feel guilt-tripped into buying the best, and sometimes most expensive items. As a result, many of them suffer from buyer’s remorse, at least in the case of prams. Besides, many parents end up buying multiple ones over the years, spending a substantial amount of money on strollers. One option that you have is to rent a stroller.

Why Some Parents Prefer to Rent?

There are some parents who think it makes sense to rent baby items such as carriers, toys, cots because babies outgrow them so fast.

They even take strollers and car seats on rent because these items tend to be expensive and there is no guarantee that your little one will take to them.

“You still can sell your stroller (carrier or car seat) for half the price later, but if you rent, it only costs you a fraction of the original price to begin with and you don’t have to keep it once you no longer need it.”

There’s a good demand for a baby and child equipment rental service given the large number of people living abroad who return regularly to visit family.

“If a passenger comes into Airport and their pram is damaged or their car seat wasn’t loaded on to the aircraft, it means the passenger is stuck. In those cases, certain airlines send their passengers to these baby equipment rental companies to supply the required equipment.”

While consumers are spoilt for choices in the stroller market, often the needs of parents’ change – some would have preferred a lighter buggy, some want more features, some want a more robust model, and so on.

Things That You Can Rent?

Rental companies offer stroller rental, crib rental and provide a large inventory of baby equipment rental options for families.

These companies rent out equipment for babies and young children, such as car seats, prams, cots, high chairs and buggies.

These companies have staff that are trained to fit car seats – so, where possible, it meets customers on arrival and ensures the car seat is installed correctly.

Factors to Consider

Here are some of the things that you should consider when renting baby products/equipment.

  • Hygiene This is the single reason that stops many parents from taking things on rental, especially things that are baby related. The good this is that Rental companies are well aware of this fact so they make sure all their baby items are thoroughly washed and sterilised before and after every use.

  • Discounts Planning to go long-term rental, make sure you compare the total rental amount to the retail cost; sometimes the rentals can add up to a substantial amount. Lot of rental companies offer discounts if you rent multiple products or take things for an extended period, so do check if they offer discounts.

  • Other costs Do also factor in pick-up and drop-off costs, cancellation fees, plus security deposits, and if they are refundable or not.

‘Airbnb for Strollers’: Rent Baby Gear in the US

GoBaby, a New York City-based startup, has created a baby equipment rental marketplace and app that lets you rent things like car seats and strollers on demand.

“Parents traveling to these destinations will soon be able to identify members of the GoBaby community with items for rent near their destinations, thus, eliminating the need to plan, pack and lug their children’s equipment with them,” the company said in its blog post.

People with unused children equipment (strollers, car seats, high chairs, toys, etc.) can also rent out their baby items.

So the next time you travel to a new city in the US, and need a stroller or car seat, and don’t want to lug your own baby gear through an airport, or stuff a stroller into a crammed car, make sure you use the services of GoBaby.

Choosing a Stroller

A pram, stroller or buggy is an important baby product for you and your baby. Your child is most likely to spend a substantial amount of time in the pram or stroller and as a parent, you will spend a lot of time folding and pushing it, so when choosing a pram or stroller, it is important that you choose something that is comfortable for both to you and for your little one.

When selecting a stroller, you should consider how you’re going to use it – quick trips in and around the city or in shopping centres, public transport, or long walks / jogging. Based on that, you should select a pram or stroller that would best match your lifestyle.
