Using a Hoverboard to push the Baby stroller

Here’s another cool way to push the stroller when outdoors, using a hoverboard. Lot of parents go outdoors on skates, skateboard, and jogging while pushing a stroller. Now you could add one more thing to the list, a hoverboard.

A hoverboard is a device that can be used for personal transportation. It consists of a platform (with two wheels) on which you stand and control the device using the pressure pads placed on top of the hoverboard.

While many see it as a fun and novel device, a hoverboard can be quite useful for people who are unable to walk due to various reasons.

Not many people realize it but a lot of hoverboard/Segway users actually use the gadget as an assistive device because it is of immense help to those who have difficulty walking. They also prefer using the Segway (instead of the wheelchair) because it enables them to talk to people by looking them straight in the eyes, something that they are unable to do when seated in a wheelchair.

Several parents have been spotted pushing the stroller while standing on the battery-powered segway. Although it may seem like a lazy option (it doesn’t burn many calories), in certain parts of the city, it can be a practical option, and it looks cool too.

Is it risky?

There are many parents who are using the hoverboard to push a stroller. However, there are parents who do not see it as a very safe option, especially when one takes a look at the various videos showing hoverboard crashes.

While they are all supportive of using technology for mobility assistance, they really do not support the idea of pushing an infant in a stroller (or holding an infant) when using a hoverboard as it looks dangerous to them.

Perhaps, that is the reason why you do not find a lot of attachments/kits for the hoverboard and stroller.

Segway-Ninebot’s S-Pod is a Stroller for Adults

Segway-Ninebot’s S-Pod personal transporter (stroller) for adults, comes across a much improved version compared to the original Segway, which was overhyped, expensive, came with flaws, and required extensive standing.

While the S-Pod still does the whole self-balancing act on two wheels (like the earlier version) but a third wheel has been added to make climbing aboard a little easier, and to make it a little more stable when it comes to a stop.

The S-Pod features a navigation panel and a manually operated control knob allows the rider to move forward or backward. The company claims that it can hit speeds of almost 25 miles per hour, and can even go faster depending on the rider, terrain and conditions.

You can even remove the control pad and use a remote to operate the S-Pod (for riders who aren’t comfortable driving using a joystick).

Going by the design, it seems getting in and out of the S-Pod won’t be as easy or as accommodating as wheelchairs are. It also seems the S-Pod is not really a replacement for self-powered wheelchairs and will mostly cater to tired, able-bodied passengers.

Also, while the self-balancing trick looks impressive, not sure how it would behave when the battery dies (the last thing you want is a mobility device that topples over when the battery dies).

The Segway-Ninebot S-Pod definitely has advantages over other electric vehicles. Because it can spin on two wheels, the stroller has a zero turning radius, which means it will be less obtrusive to use in places like airports, theme parks, and even shopping malls.

Please note that the Segway-Ninebot is only a concept, which means it could potentially hit the problems the original Segway did (the earlier model didn’t live up to the hype that preceded it).
