Stroller tires keep getting flat: This could be the problem

You think your stroller tires keep getting flat all the time; heere could be the problems.

  • Probably something is wrong with the tire, wheel or the way you have inserted the new tube into the tire.
  • Probably something sharp is stuck in the tire that keeps on poking the tube.
  • Your tire is worn out and more susceptible to getting punctured (time to replace the tires)
  • If the tire is under-inflated (low tire pressure), the tire can puncture on impact with some object.

Various Products for Repairing Punctures

You will find a range of products that will help you repair punctures of your stroller tires.

  • Standard repair kits and glueless patches.
  • Slime Tyre Sealant is a liquid (for preventing punctures) that sits inside your inner tube.
  • Tire levers to remove the tire of the stroller
  • Range of pumps to inflate the inner tube (after you have fixed the puncture).
  • Anti-Puncture Tape (Tire Liners) sits between the tire and the inner tube and helps prevent punctures.
  • Puncture proof tires including Slime Filled inner tubes and Tire Liners.

Inner Tube Mounting Instructions

Please keep the following in mind when mounting the inner tube of the stroller.

  • Use stroller or bicycle air pump. Do NOT use air pumps at the gas station.
  • Use tire levers to remove and fit tires/inner tubes. Pull the tyre of the rim using these tire levers.
  • When fixing punctures, make sure the inner tube is not pinched between the tire bead and wheel rim.
  • Inflate as per the pressure indicated on sidewall of tyre

How to fix a flat jogging stroller tire in 5 easy steps

Here’s a mom who has documented how to fix a flat jogging stroller tire, while watching his eldest son do the task.

So here are the steps on how to fix a flat jogging stroller tire. You can use these steps to fix a flat cycle tire as well (the concept is more or less similar):

  1. First remove the wheel from the stroller, then take the tire off of the wheel, and finally remove the inner tube from the tire. Fill up the tube with air.
  2. Fill your kitchen sink with water enough to cover the top of the inner tube. Put the inner tube in the water and start squeezing it under the water so you can see where the puncture is (you’ll see bubbles coming up from the puncture). Use a pen to circle the location of the puncture so you can find it later.
  3. Dry off the inner tube and get out the tire repair kit. There are several kits out there that includes Glue-Less patches, metal scuffer, tire levers, and more.

Use a pen to circle the puncture so you can find it later. Using the metal scuffer, scuff up the area around the puncture. Add the patch sticker over the puncture area.

  4. Add the patch sticker, make sure it tightly covers the puncture using a scraper. The puncture should now be fixed (you can check again by inserting in water).
  5. Now you can put the inner tube back in the tire. Add the tire back to the wheel by using the tire levers. Pump up the tire, add it back to your stroller, and you’re good to go.

Press tight using scraper. Put inner tube back in the tire. Add the tire back to the wheel. pump air in the tire.
