How (and why) to slime the tires of a stroller

Slime Tire sealant prevents and repairs flat tires. Here’s a little stroller hack using slime, and why you may need to use it.

Did you know that you can slime the tires to fix that puncture? While this may be a temporary solution, there are times when it comes really handy.

Slime Tube Sealant is a liquid, especially designed for puncture protection; the liquid has to be injected into the inner tube through the value (you will need to remove the valve core first). These can be used to instantly seals punctures on tubes up to 1/8″. It can be used to prevent flats from thorns, glass, goatheads, nails and other debris.

So what exactly does slime do to the tires?

Slime Tire Sealant prevents and repairs flat tires, they form sort of a plug around the puncture and stop air loss.

Its common to get flat tires, especially if you have a jogging stroller, and lot of parents carry a flat repair kit to change the inner tube as and when needed.

However, there are problems (inconveniences) when you get a flat tire and when changing the inner tube on the go.

  • First thing, you have to remove the child from the stroller and then keep an eye on him/her while you carry on the task of repairing/replacing the tube.
  • Most parents forget to replace the spare tube after they have used one, which means you will need to call your spouse to pick you up or bring a new tube.
  • And on some bad days, you could get more than one flat (punctures) in a run, which means it’s going to take more time.

In such cases, it could be easier to just put Slime or some other sealant on the tubes (and probably replace the tube if needed when you’re back at home). Lot of parents feel this is a much convenient solution at times.

The only downside to using Slime is that you will need to carry a bottle of Slime. And assuming you do get a decent-sized hole, the wheel will have a green patch (due to spraying the sealant around).

If you can live with that, this is indeed a convenient option.

A small 8 oz. bottle costs around $5 (about the same cost as a spare tube).

Slime 1022-A Rubber Tube Patch Kit with Glue: Everything you need to patch a leak on a tube. 7-piece kit includes five rubber patches, one metal scuffer, and one tube of rubber cement.

If you have a tire with a tube (applicable to most strollers, especially the jogging strollers), you need to use a slime bottle with the Red label.

So do use this hack (Sliming the tires) the next time you get a flat tire.
