2020 Acura RDX Driveway Test | How does a stroller fit?

The 2020 Acura RDX is a family-friendly compact luxury crossover but it’s not really “compact” considering the passenger and cargo space that has been provided. Here we are testing the cargo space by placing a stroller in the trunk.

Here’s a Thule Spring, a compact regular stroller, with a folded measurement of 30 inches long, 16.75 inches wide and 10.75 inches tall. The reason a compact stroller such as the Thule Spring was chosen is that if it takes up a lot of space in the trunk, you can assume that most other strollers will definitely take even more space.

So looking at the pictures, the stroller leaves sufficient space for other things in the trunk. I already know that it can’t fit like this (the sideways vertical position) in my Audi Allroad when the cargo cover and cargo net cartridges are in place.

The carset barely fits in and out of the back door due to the narrow rear door opening. The “trunk space” is also small, and most parents have to fold down a seat in order to fit in a full sized stroller in the trunk.

There are some parents who suggest that you take the wheels off the pram to fit it in the boot. They struggled getting in the uppababy vista – had to take the wheels off the pram every time, collapse carrycot attachment down or had to put the stroller on the backseat.

One parent sold her Mini Cooper and bought a Juke in preparation for the kids. She says the latches for the car seat aren’t the best for frequent removal. Compared to Mini, the Juke has more backseat room, but not quite as much storage opportunity when all the seats are down.

Most parents recommend using the maxi cosi tiny fit convertible car seat which nicely fits in the car.

One parent had to remove the bottom of the boot in order to fit their Stokke in.

Checkout if the iCandy Peach Pushchair fits in a Nissan Juke.

Another parent says she was able to fit a Bugaboo Chameleon (pretty big) in the boot. She suggests taking out the boot liner thing which gives you much more room, so hopefully if you take that out, you’ll be fine.

The silvercross pram fits perfectly in but you will need to take the lid out from the boot.

Then there are some parents who suggest that you should test the pram to see if it fits the boot before buying the Juke, due to the shape of the boot and the boot lid.

Nissan Juke allows just one child in the juke, plus shopping and pram. The juke boot is smaller than the corsa.

Car Seats / Strollers for a Mini Cooper

Have a Mini Cooper? Even though the car is a bit tiny in size (not really the ideal family car), you can still find strollers and car seats to fit in it.

Most strollers are unable to get into the trunk because of their widths. A city mini would just barely fit in the trunk (you have to put it in a certain way and remove the trunk cover piece for it to fit).

Here are some compact choices that fit in the mini cooper:

  • Britax B-Agile travel
  • Peg Perego Viaggio car seat and Peg PLiko Switch stroller
  • Chicco infant seat.
  • Quinny Zapp stroller

In general, umbrella strollers that can convert into travel systems are better choices, they take up a lot less space. Most umbrella strollers will fit diagonally.

Watch: How I put my baby in my Mini Cooper

Its best to find a stroller/car seat you can try out in your car, if at all possible, and imagine how you’ll get your baby in and out of the car in that model. Pay close attention to the tires and the amount of space they take up.

For those parents who are expecting their second child, and are looking for a double stroller, and own a compact car (with limited vehicle space), a better option is to use a single stroller and a sling.

Another option is to buy two cheap umbrella strollers (will fit in the trunk) and buy an umbrella stroller connector that will connect the two umbrella strollers and can be used as a side by side double stroller.
